Andohasatra in the spotlight
Andohasatra-Betioky school inaugurated in a two-day celebration, in the presence of the Minister of Education
Claude-Alain Burky, the DDC’s special representative, and his wife who is herself a native of South Betioky, took part in the inauguration ceremonies. The event was widely covered by journalists from the Malagasy press, radio and television.
A traditional ceremony took place on the afternoon of 14 October, in the presence of the local authorities and the villagers. At nightfall, they watched excitedly while films about Andohasatra and the April Don du Choeur concert were projected against a wall of the school. They particularly enjoyed the extracts of Malagasy songs and dances. The evening ended with a “Bal poussière”, a celebration typical of the region.
On 15 October, at 9am, the official inauguration began, attended by the Minister of Education and senior officials of SOS Villages d’Enfants Madagascar. This exceptionally high-ranking presence gave the event a special dimension; with the national TV cameras recording every moment, Andohasatra became the centre of Madagascar for the space of a morning. The people of the village will remember this and talk about it for a long time to come.
We give our heartfelt thanks to all who attended and who contributed to the project. May the 360 children of Andohasatra make the most of this wonderful school, where the school year began on 17 October.
